Pattaya city uses up Bt22 million baht for Countdown Party 2009 at Bali Hai pier. Like every other year, there will be many Thai artists and entertainers of Thailand joining the year-end party to countdown for a Happy New Year 2010.
Mayor Ittipol didn’t find much evidence of fun when he went walkabout in Pattaya’ most famous attraction, Walking Street, the other night, just mournful inhabitants bemoaning the very apparent lack of Pattaya’s main breadwinners, the international tourists. The beaches around the city, particularly Jomtien Beach, just down the road from PDN,was practically deserted with virtually the only evident tourists a few hundreds or so Russians, judging by their glowering looks and language. Normally, at the beginning of the High Season, the aforementioned beach is thronged with them and other nationalities. It will no doubt pick up at the weekend when the Bangkok regulars make their weekend trips, but they are not really the big spenders the city is reliant on.
Consequently, Mayors Ittipol and Vittaya are determined to make a stupendous impression on potential visitors worldwide by publicising the upcoming New Year celebrations in advance; an initiative, entitled "Pattaya Count Down 2009" to be held on Bali Hai Pier from December 25-30, which they hope will draw 1 million visitors and somewhere in the range of Bt500 million in tourist revenue, both local and international, especially from neighbouring Asian countries. The event proper will be an unprecedented, marathon seven-day extravaganza, which will be telecast worldwide. The radical new-style New Year celebrations will continue annually in the same vein and will, it is hoped, reached a world-class standard.
The media, naturally, are to be the means by which the New Year Celebrations will reach a global audience via MCOT’s worldwide network link, including CNN, NHK and CBS. GMM Media will also be intimately involved, spending Bt22 million to organise the event, Bt8 million-Bt10 million of this coming from the Chonburi provincial budget. One of the highlights will be live concerts given by 13 bands. [Black Head ,Slot Machine ,Instinct,Budda Bless ,Playground,Pancake, Boy Piece Maker and all the Super Stars Artists]
