It can be exciting and exhausting, exhilarating and enervating, or body breaking and mindblowing.
I’m referring to thrills of travelling alone. The Single Woman Traveller (SWT) is the latest niche market in the travel industry. In fact, many airlines have been targeting this vibrant travel species with special rates, facilities, and attractive packages.
Being a travel writer, this correspondent is proud to belong to such a unique clup. It has meant many adventures across a wide range of countries – each offering its own distinct experiences. As long as one follows a few basic rules, the world can be a delectable oyster for the discerning SWT.
For starters, always beself-confident and selfassured, and never look or sound like a tourist. If you don’t speak the local language, use maps rather than asking people. Always carry a copy of your passport, but don’t carry valuables or too much money. Dress locally rather than ‘ethnic’. Finally, always be prepared for trouble.
I’ve managed to find trouble in almost every country I’ve visited-but I’ve lived to tell the tale. Imagine this scenario. I have an early morning fligh to catch out of Rome, supposedly the city of all vices.
